Shizuma Rei (charcoal calligrapher)
Studied Japanese painting and ink and wash painting while working for an insurance company and later graduated from the Department of Oil Painting's Correspondence Course at the Musashino Art University College of Art and Design.
Devised charcoal calligraphy as a global method of making art that crosses national borders (as well as languages and writing systems) and the often subtle, elusive borders between the various spheres of the fine arts.
